How To

How to drive a nails in wood

It is essential to pick the right size and style of hammer before you can drive a nail in wood. The most popular types of hammers include claw hammers as well as mallets and ball peenhammers. Each type of hammer has its pros and cons. A claw hammer, for example, is the best choice if you need to hit nails hard. However, it's not easy to know exactly where the impact will land. Although a sledgehammer can be used to hit large areas quickly, it is too heavy to be useful for small tasks.

After selecting the right hammer, you will need to place your hand flat against one side of the head. The handle should rest comfortably in your hands. Take the handle and hold it with both hands. But don't press down so hard you injure yourself. Your wrist should be relaxed while you hold the hammer straight upwards. Then swing the hammer back toward the ground, aiming for the center of the nail. You should feel the impact on the nail from the hammer. Try practicing with a block to help you master the art of swinging a stick.

The hammer should be held close to your body when you are ready to begin driving the nail. To ensure that the nail is perpendicular on the surface of the wooden floor, position it. Keep your focus on the tip of each nail. Move the hammer forward and then continue to move the hammerhead. Keep doing this until you are comfortable with the swing. Once you have mastered this technique, increase the power of your swings. You can hold the hammer over your shoulder and forcefully bring it down. This way, you'll be able to put more energy behind your blows.

Once you've nailed the first hole, remove the hammer from the nail. To remove the remainder of the nails, you can use a screwdriver/pry bar. Keep the nail heads parallel to the board's surfaces in order to avoid splitting wood.
