How To

How to make wooden joints

This tutorial will show how to join 2 pieces of wood together. We'll use the "pocket hole joint," which means we drill holes in the wood and then glue them together. This works well if the wood is straight and smooth. You might consider dowel joinery if your wood isn’t straight or flat. Here are the steps

  1. Drill Pocket Hole Joints. To start, measure and mark where you want to put the pocket hole joint. You will then drill 3/4" deep holes through each piece of wood with a jigsaw, handheld drilling machine, or hand-held drill.
  2. Sand Smooth. The wood's edges can be sanded to prevent splitting.
  3. Glue Together. Apply glue to the sides of both wood. Let it sit for about 5 minutes before clamping the pieces together.
  4. Fix the Pieces together. Once the glue has dried, clamp the pieces together so they are flush.
  5. Trim Joinery. After the glue dries, trim any excess wood around your joint.

To be able to turn the pieces inside-out, leave enough room between them.
